影片背景设在朝鲜时代，带领观众来到战争烽火肆虐后的混沌年代，随着一对反目成仇的儿时玩伴展开一段扣人心弦的旅程。千永(Cheon-yeong) 是武艺高强的奴隶，竭力挣脱为人奴仆的不公桎梏，宗烈(Jong-ryeo) 则是千永的主人，来自朝鲜最有影响力的军武世家。姜栋元饰演身怀高超剑术的平民千永，拚命扭转生而为奴的宿命。朴正民饰演朝鲜赫赫有名军武世家之后的宗烈，他收留千永，而后加入皇军，成为当朝国王宣祖的左膀右臂。车胜元饰演为了自保而背弃子民的君主宣祖，金新绿饰演凡东 (Beom-dong)，陈善奎饰演出身高贵并率领人民义勇军的将军饰演金慈领 (Kim Ja-ryeong)，郑星一则饰演残暴的日军先锋剑心 (Kenshin)。。This film is not about the revolution that changed Ukraine this winter.
