党的十一届三中全会后，江西农村发生了深刻变化。粮食丰收了，交粮、卖粮增多了，形势分外喜人。一天，光山队农民熊阿福带着儿子熊木根和尚未成婚的儿媳何贞贞去卖粮。何贞贞是阿福情同手足的好友何阿满的女儿，因阿满早年丧妻，贞贞自幼在熊家长大成人。父子三人世间摇着粮船来到青河镇，卖粮后要给木根和贞贞完婚。途中，遇到了银溪队的粮船和聪明、活泼的姑娘银花。他们也是来镇上售粮的。可是，青河镇粮管所的现有粮仓装不下这么多粮食，老所长何阿满又喜又愁。熊阿福要贞贞找她父亲开"后门"，先收他的粮食。可这位勤恳为公的老所长却反要老亲家和他的生产队发扬风格，让别的队先售。老实憨厚的熊阿福又急又气之下失足落水，贞贞为救老爹也被拖入江中，二人被镇农机厂的青年工人关木根救起。群众卖粮难的问题亟待解决，老所长阿满一面动脑筋挖潜力，一面向镇政府申请解决办法。幼儿园主任刘玉芳应允把幼儿园小礼...。What Will Survive DCI Banks struggles to cope with the sudden death of his mother, as he investigates the murder of a young Estonian woman and the disappearance of her drug-dependent sister.
